A picture of my first (and hopefully not last) impromptu session with Serenity. I kind of ambushed Roy and Katrina while I was out driving around looking for Eagles on the 16th. I still want to swing by their apartment one of these days and take pictures of baby Serenity, but I don’t want to just go over there unannounced.

I was playing with some of the pictures in photoshop, and this is the result. I like the now-blurredness of the background because in the original it kinda distracted. I can see why some photographers do post-processing!

To date this is probably my most favorited picture on DeviantArt… ever. I’m so excited to have it featured as well!

My Pets

July 16, 2008 at 9:26 am (Other)

Just a few snapshots of some of the family pets.

Like she does everytime I come home, Fan came down to the gate for some pets. I took the opportunity to take some pictures.

Midge, another of our cats. She wandered over to see what I was doing.

She can be a very good model, when the mood suits her. I call her Jungle Cat Midgey at times like this.

Betty is the black dog on the left. Shes notoriously camera shy. My baby Oreo is on the right, and she loves having her picture taken. I could do a whole album just of her.

She loves to play fetch, but isnt so good about bringing the ball back. She wants to be chased.

I’ve also got a pet corn snake. Taking pictures of her was impossible today. I’ll add some at a later date.

It’s here (Sorta!), Jaw-bump and photo!

July 14, 2008 at 9:18 pm (Other)

My Nikon D60 arrived today! Oh I am SO happy! It showed up ahead of schedule (Canada Post said it’d be here Wednesday) which just balances out my day! I’ve already taken a handful of photos around my house. Mostly dog-pictures. Oreo, my puppy, is incredibly photogenic but the other dog, Betty, doesn’t like her picture taken at all. The cats don’t mind as long as it doesn’t make too much noise.

Anyway. I’m really not thrilled with Aden Camera. I mean, I got the camera and the bag but they didn’t send the 55-200mm non-VR lens I ordered as well! Kinda disappointed with them. I don’t think I’ll be dealing with them in future.

At my cousin’s suggestion, I’ve ordered a Hoya UV filter for each of my lenses, plus a Hoya polarizer filter and a Hoya macro filter set. Cost me about $75 plus shipping. slphotogear is the ebay store I bought them from, for those interested.

Hurts to type, so I won’t natter on much longer. I’ve had swelling in my jaw since Friday, and it’s tripled the size since then. Today, worried that it might be a dental abscess that could kill me if it reached my brain, I went into Emergency. Apparently there’s no abscess, just a lot of swelling. I have to go in every 6-ish hours to get antibiotics. And rather than have to jab me each time I go in, I’ve got a lovely new plastic attachment sticking out of my hand. Twinges sometimes when I type, but it’s better than the nurse having to look for a vein and stabbing me with a needle each time.

And here’s one of the pictures I took with my camera today;

Finally!

July 9, 2008 at 8:54 pm (Other)

Finally after quite a long wait my camera is on it’s way. I don’t think they sent the bag I ordered with it, but I don’t really care as long as they send it soon. I can live without a camera bag. It’s getting to the point where I can’t live without my camera!

Okay, that might be a little exaggerated. Or a lot. But there is very little I want more right now than to be running around taking loads of pictures. Breakfast is slightly higher on the list because I just woke up and I’m starving!

I’m really hoping the camera arrives before Filomi Days, which is my favorite town holiday. It celebrates my hometown’s three industries. Fishing, Logging and Mining. Except we don’t really have much of them anymore. Still, there are fun events. Watermelon eating contests, petting zoos, bubble pools and ‘copper panning’ pools. Kettle Corn, Mini Doughnuts, and sometimes smoked salmon. Beer Garden, Dances and Parades.

The parade is always fun. The local Grocery store does a ’shopping cart drill team’, kids on floats throw candies and there are some really cool looking old cars that my Dad would’ve loved. And at the end of it, the fire trucks usually have a water fight and soak anyone standing too close. It’s one of the few reasons why I like living here.

Also, I read a tutorial on DeviantArt about trying to get more page views and one of ‘don’t’ things is ‘don’t number your deviations’. So once I start uploading pictures from my new camera, I’m going to probably scrap the old ones. Might keep a few of my favorites in there, but I think that’s what I’ll do.

I can has a Patience?

July 2, 2008 at 10:31 am (Other)

So even though I ordered my camera on the 28th of June, I still haven’t received my shipping confirmation from Aden Camera. I had expected it to be sent Monday, the 30th since that was the end of the weekend. And what with Tuesday being Canada Day, I kinda hoped they would send it soon.

So I emailed them today. Just a friendly little note to ask what was up. Turns out they’re waiting for the camera bag I ordered to arrive from their Markham store before they can mail the camera, lens and bag to me.

I really hope it arrives soon. I want to take pictures so badly! I literally think about it over and over before bed. Sometimes to the point where I have trouble sleeping. Other times I purposefully focus on it to keep my mind off of other distracting thoughts.

Dad’s life insurance money came in, so Mom and I are going to drop a bunch of money on the truck loan and the credit cards (all of them, including dad’s) so we don’t have to deal with them. Other expenses this month include insurance for the truck, which is going to cost a bit more because I have never had insurance in my name before. But it’s nothing we can’t handle!

Mom and I repaired the step my brother accidentally broke. The old step was rotted, anyway. Actually the whole porch is starting to make me suspicious. A couple soft spots. Nothing compared to the area around the front door. Or the floor in Mom’s room.

Killing me softly…

July 1, 2008 at 12:00 am (Eagles, Other)

Ugh! If there was any time for me to have a camera, it would’ve been today! My mother and I were running errands downtown when we saw dozens and dozens of eagles circling in the sky above post office was, so we went to investigate.

There was a guy feeding the eagles down there, tossing chunks of chicken into the middle of the empty parking lot by the Seagate. There were already a lot of people standing there watching, but I pulled up in a pretty good spot and my Mom and I sat and watched.

There was this really big eagle and a smaller one that came down first. The big one hopped on the chicken and started eating, forcing the smaller one to sit back and watch. There were some cocky crows and pigeons lurking around, too.

The guy tossed some more chicken out, and some of the circling eagles swooped down and grabbed the pieces with their claws before taking off again. A few larger, older eagles dive bombed the one on the bit of chicken, scaring him off before stealing the chicken and flying off.

I know that if I’d had my camera already I would have some really good pictures to show you! But it’s still, unfortunately, nine or so days away.

Waiting is KILLING me!

Yo!

June 29, 2008 at 1:49 am (Other)

Welcome to my Photography Blog. I hope to, in the near future, upload a fair amount of my photographs to this website as a sort of gallery. At least until I can get my own website.

Thank you for dropping by.
